Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie β who received the toy collection when he grew up β getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
