The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
