The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
