President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the government to pause refugee claims and halt granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey informed the audience at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
