Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting With the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another player anywhere that I want up in that moment besides him with his October magic," remarked Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance this season.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
